The idea for Julian Coffee began while visiting a coffee farm in Puerto Rico in 2015. The owner of the farm taught me about the rich history of Puerto Rican coffee. He told me the quality is among the best in the world, coffee so good that the Pope and European Royalty would only drink coffee from the island. Sadly in the last century production on the island has gone down. It is my goal now to see the island return to its rich history by providing this delicious coffee with the rest of the world. Which simultaneously helps job stability and fair U.S. wages for the coffee pickers of Puerto Rico. (La Isla Del Encanto). Thinking bigger and looking into the global coffee industry, I discovered that since the price of coffee is so low because of the influx of cheap Robusta beans from Brazil and Vietnam, many farm owners and pickers are struggling financially. Selling or even just abandoning the farm in search of higher paying work. So we now source organic coffee from Colombia and Nicaragua and paying the farm a premium (over the asking price) for their specialty grade beans to ensure that coffee farming is a financially fair and viable option for them, and for the generations to come. As we source from more countries and implement this model, we believe it will raise the global economy by paying the farmers fairly for a days work, while simultaneously offering the customer the best tasting coffee possible.
